This Saturday Imperial Corp Stadium plays host to one of the biggest Brisbane Classicos in recent history as Lions FC visit Brisbane City with just one point separating the sides on the NPL Queensland ladder. City sit in 4th spot with 21 points from 13 matches, Lions following just one point behind. For City, this is the final match at Imperial Corp Stadium before the impending closure of the Stadium to become a FIFA Women’s World Cup training venue for 8 weeks.

This is the second Brisbane Classico of the season. Lions took the first meeting 6-3 at Luxury Paints Stadium in an exciting battle which saw City fight back from 3-0 down to level proceedings before Lions again took control of the contest in the final 15 minutes. Andrew Pengelly registered a double on that evening and currently sits equal top of the goalscoring standings with 11 goals in 13 matches. For City, Matt Thurtell (7) & Jheison Macuace (6) both sit within the top 5 league scorers as well.

The recent Classico history certainly favours Lions who have won 4 out of the last 5 meetings between the two sides. However encouragingly for City the last meeting at Imperial Corp Stadium was a 4-2 win for the Azzurri in Round 7 of the 2022 Australia Cup, famously overturning a 7-0 league defeat just days earlier and sending them through to the National Round of 32.

With a large crowd expected at Imperial Corp Stadium for what should be an unforgettable evening, supporters from both sides are strongly encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets to avoid queues at the gate, they can do so HERE: https://events.humanitix.com/2023-old-boys-and-girls-day-brisbane-classico-brisbane-city-vs-lions-fc
