Brisbane City FC are set to host FQPL3 South Coast side Coomera Colts in a Kappa Queensland Cup clash on Wednesday night at Imperial Corp Stadium.

The winner will earn a spot in the quarter-finals — and move just one game away from qualifying for the national stage of the Australia Cup (Round of 32).

City come into the fixture off the back of a strong run of form in the NPL Queensland, including a 1-0 win over Young Roar last time out. Prior to that, they pushed ladder leaders Lions FC in a narrow 4-3 defeat, took points off Gold Coast United in a 1-1 draw, and defeated Peninsula Power 2-1 in an all-action clash at home. City booked their place in tonights clash with a 6-0 win over Mt. Gravatt Hawks in April.

The Cup will see Peter Gaffney continue to test his squad’s depth with fixtures piling up after a host of postponements.

Wednesday’s match marks the beginning of a busy stretch at Newmarket, with four home games across seven days as both the men’s and women’s squads prepare for double-duty.

Coomera, meanwhile, are enjoying a perfect start to their 2025 campaign. They’ve notched seven straight wins to open their FQPL3 South Coast season, despite a six-point deduction for a breach of registration regulations. They currently sit third, with two games in hand on top spot Kingscliff Wolves.

The Colts have also impressed in the Cup. After a 3-1 win over Virginia United in Round 3, they edged Centenary Stormers 3-2 before knocking out FQPL1 contenders Magic United in a thrilling 4-3 cupset earlier this month.

With momentum behind them, they’ll arrive in Newmarket full of belief and chasing a second consecutive top-flight scalp.

Tonight’s fixture will not be live streamed — meaning the only way to catch the action is from the stands at Imperial Corp Stadium, with the clubhouse and bar open throughout the evening.
