Round two of the newly formed Kappa Pro Series sees Brisbane City travel down the M1 to the Croatian Sports Centre to take on 2022 NPL Grand Final winners Gold Coast Knights. The Kappa Pro Series is an exciting new innovation from Football Queensland that pits NPL & FQPL1 Clubs together in four pools of six teams each, with the pool winners progressing through to the semi-final stage.

Both sides made winning starts to their campaign last weekend, Knights prevailing 3-2 over FQPL1 outfit Brisbane Strikers courtesy of an 87th minute winner from young starlet Harry Lane. Meanwhile the Azzurri battled to a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar at AJ Kelly Park, a composed 70th minute finish from Jheison Macuace proving the difference between the two sides.

Both teams had markedly changed lineups in Round 1 from the 2022 season having both recruited heavily over the off-season. Knights welcomed the return from injury of striker Kristian Brymora who netted a double on Friday night whilst also enjoying strong performances from new recruits Shelford Dais who has joined from Olympic and Oskar Dillon who returns to the club after a stint in Victoria with Oakleigh Cannons. City’s starting XI on Sunday featured no less than 4 debutants in Oliver Plusnin, Braydon Doolan, Abrahim Yango & Matt Thurtell, with new coach Karl Dodd also blooding further debutants from the bench in Luka Pullen, Ginjiro Chiba & Macuace.

In 2022 it was Knights who enjoyed the better of the head to head battles between the two sides. They prevailed 3-1 at the Croatian Sports Centre in April with goals from Pasquale De Vita, Mirza Muratovic & Will Peck cancelling out Koji Kato’s early opener. In the return game at the now named Imperial Corp Stadium it was an early Max Brown double which saw Knights to a 2-1 victory as Kye Bolton’s reply was unable to inspire the Azzurri to a result.

In what will be a tightly contested fixture we encourage all City fans to make the trip down the M1 with us and cheer the boys on in what promises to be a fantastic atmosphere as always at the Croatian Sports Centre.
