Brisbane City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Gaffney as the new Head Coach, effective immediately. Gaffney brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to our club after previously spending the last six years at Lions FC where he worked not only in the academy space but also closely under Darren Simes & Warren Moon as the 1st team assistant coach.
As the son of Larry Gaffney, a key figure in Brisbane City’s history who played 123 games from 1977 to 1981, Peter carries a strong legacy. Larry’s contributions included winning the 1977 and 1978 Philips Cup Finals and securing a top 4 finish in the 1979 National League.
Renowned for his tactical acumen and player development skills, Peter’s commitment to nurturing young talent and implementing an attractive, attacking style of football aligns perfectly with Brisbane City FC’s vision of promoting a dynamic and competitive brand of football.
“I am thrilled to be joining Brisbane City FC,” said Gaffney. “This club has a rich history and a passionate fan base, and I am eager to build on the strong foundations already in place. My goal is to foster a culture of excellence both on and off the field, ensuring that Brisbane City FC continues to thrive and compete at the highest level in the Queensland NPL”
As Head Coach, Gaffney will oversee all aspects of the senior team’s preparation and performance, working closely with the coaching staff to develop a strategic roadmap for success in the upcoming seasons. His emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and innovation promises to elevate the club to new heights in the competitive football landscape.
“We conducted an extensive search for the right leader to guide our team forward, and Peter Gaffney emerged as the clear choice,” said Rob Rossi, President of Brisbane City FC. “His proven ability to achieve results and his dedication to player development make him an ideal fit for our club. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on our players and our community.”
Please join us in welcoming Peter Gaffney to Brisbane City FC and in wishing him every success in his new role.
