Brisbane City FC is thrilled to announce the signing of English forward Marcus Barnes for the remainder of the 2025 National Premier League season.

Barnes brings a wealth of experience and attacking flair to the squad, having developed through the Southampton FC academy. Joining the Saints in 2013, he quickly progressed through the ranks, signing his first professional contract at 17. During his time with Southampton’s U23 side, Barnes showcased his goal-scoring prowess, netting 15 goals in 50 appearances, including 14 in the Premier League 2 competition.

His performances earned him a first-team debut in the FA Cup, where he made a substitute appearance against Derby County in January 2019. Prior to that, Barnes made headlines during a loan spell at Yeovil Town, scoring on his debut in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Bradford City. Barnes also spent the 2019-2020 season on loan with National League club Eastleigh.

Following his tenure at Southampton, Barnes gained further experience with a stints at Oldham Athletic, USL side Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, and Northern Premier League side Mickleover.

Known for his ability to excite on the ball, the 28-year-old is eager to make an impact at City.

“First and foremost, I want to get to know the players and them to get to know me – we all have strengths and weaknesses, and its just understanding as a team how we can get the best out of one-another.”

“I like to be exciting, I’m quite an explosive player. I like to make make runs in behind and get shots off. I’m an attacking player that wants to make things happen.”

Brisbane City FC welcomes Marcus to the club and looks forward to his contributions as we head towards the Hahn Australia Cup National Rounds, Kappa Queensland Cup semi-finals, and the remainder of our league campaign.

The club would also like to thank Quest Breakfast Creek for their help settling Marcus into Brisbane!
